On December 14, 2019, the Civil Air Patrol’s Puerto Rico Wing celebrated its 70th Anniversary of History during the Annual Conference and Awards Banquet in Wyndham Candelero Beach Resort at Palmas del Mar, Humacao, Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico Wing held for the first time a very successful Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC) Intermediate course. It was held on 13 July 2019 at the Honeywell Aerospace Conference room facilities in Aguadilla, PR. There were a total of 38 students representing 20 different CAP units.
Col. Andrea Van Buren has been named the Southeast Region’s next commander, succeeding Col. Barry Melton, who has held the post since June 2015.
Van Buren will take command of the six-wing region at the National Conference in August. She has been Georgia Wing commander since April 2017.
Carolina, PR - Cadets from Muñiz ANG Base Cadet Sq. (PR-126), Lt Col Elsa M. Soto-Torres Cadet Sq. (PR-094), and Kingdom Cadet Sq. (PR-801) completed the Model Rocketry program during a two-day activity on April 6-7, 2019 at Muñiz ANG Base, Carolina, Puerto Rico.

Mayaguez, PR - During the weekend of March 23-24, a Unit Commander Course was held at the Puerto Rico Wing in Centro Residencial de Oportunidades Educativas de Mayaguez at Mayaguez, PR.
2d Lt Luis Torres, successfully completed the training on March 8, 2019, where he obtained the qualifications as an UAS Pilot for missions in aerial recognition “mapping”.
"Little steps will get you to achieve greatest goals", said Cadet Sanchez. Let's allow to present the newest Puerto Rico Wing Cadet Spaatz, C/Col Angelymar Sanchez #2223 from the Muñiz Air National Guard Base Cadet Squadron, SER-PR-126.
Cadet Sanchez had make history in her unit to be the first cadet to satisfactorily passed all four events of the test in the first attempt; which is a representation of commitment and long hours of preparation.Cadet Sanchez became the fifth cadet to passed the Spaatz Award Examination after seven years gap of her predecessor C/Col Pamela Blanco Coca; currently Capt in the United States Air Force. An interesting fact in her unit Spaatz history, is that only females cadets had achieved this great milestone in becoming Cadet Colonel.
Cadet Sanchez joined CAP in October 2015 and only in 3 years and 5 months she completed all the CAP achievements.
The course is focused on wilderness searches. It consists of classroom lessons and practical, tabletop exercises. Course participants learn about planning an extended search using Probability of Success (POS). The tools are mathematically based and not for the faint of heart; they help quantify the uncertainties of the search problem to allow consistent application throughout a mission. In addition to that, the course covers pre-plan development, legal aspects, Civil Air Patrol National Cell Phone Forensics Team, Cospas-Sarsat System, and federal SAR roles and responsibilities.
