SAN JUAN, PR ― On Saturday, February 15, 2020 former cadet colonel and now Capt Angelymar Sanchez successfully completed her CAP Pilot Flight Evaluation becoming officially, in many years, the first CAP female pilot in Puerto Rico Wing and the first of this decade 2020 at Fernando Rivas Dominicci Airport in Isla Grande, Puerto Rico.

“Being officially a CAP pilot is a privilege, but my long-term goal is to become a [cadet] orientation pilot to share with the future generation of cadets the moment that made me stay in the program until I became what I am today.”, said Capt Angelymar Sanchez.

The day started early for her. With the veteran and professional aviator Lt Col Carlos Quiñones as her CAP Check Pilot. The flight was made on a CAP Cessna 172 equipped with Aspen.

The evaluation consisted of two parts: one theoretical (verbally) and one practical.

Upon landing and having the aircraft in a safe area, Lt Col Quiñones congratulated Capt Sanchez and told her that she had successfully completed the examination of CAP Form 5.

The CAP Form 5, known as the CAP Pilot Flight Evaluation, is the tool CAP Check Pilot used to evaluates the CAP member on the ability to satisfactorily perform the tasks assigned; knowledge of procedures; and smoothness, judgment and mastery of the aircraft.

Capt Sanchez is a 2019 Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award recipient and earned her private pilot certificate last year. Also, is the first awardee of the Continental Motors Group $12,000 scholarship which assisted with her pilot training.

Her mission to change the lives of others continues.

“Upon entering the hangar, I saw some cadets waiting for their orientation flight and they were amazed by the uniform and asked me how I had done it. This is what this is about, being able to inspire cadets with small actions.”, added Capt Sanchez to her experience.
