2019 Cadet Competition (Color Guard)

DESCRIPTION

The Puerto Rico Wing Cadet Competition is an annual event that Cadet Color Guard teams compete in to represent the Puerto Rico Wing at the Southeast Region Cadet Competition. The event consists of many areas of competition, from military drill performances to athletic challenges to academic evaluation.  Competition rules are set at the national level.  

ELIGIBILITY

Cadets 

  • Must have completed Achievement One.
  • Must be on the Monthly Membership Listing at the time of the competition.
  • Cadets 18 and over must have completed the Cadet Protection Policy Training (CPPT).

 

Senior Members

  • Must have completed Level One and Cadet Protection Policy Training (CPPT Basic).
  • Must be on the Monthly Membership Listing at the time of the competition.

FEES

  • No fee will charge to any teams. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided only for the team (6 cadets and 2 Senior Member escorts)

APPLICATIONS

Team Applications

  • Team applications shall be submitted no later than 26 October 2019, but the team must send an email with interest in competing by 14 September 2019.
  • Applications shall consist of a roster of 6 cadets and 2 SM escorts. Applications shall be emailed to ismael.rodriguez@prwg.cap.gov.
  • Send to the Competition Director a copy of the spreadsheet attached (filled out completely) with a CAPF 161 per cadet. 

Staff Applications

  • Staff members will be needed to support the competition in areas such as judges, test proctors, timekeepers, recorders, line judges, panel quiz moderator, photographers, and other duties. 
  • Members interested in staffing should email Lt Col Ismael J. Rodriguez to ismael.rodriguez@prwg.cap.gov

Spectators

  • Teams may bring spectators, but they are the full responsibility of the team.
  • Spectators shall be listed on the team registration. CAP member must have a valid CAP ID to get access to the installation.  For any other spectator (no CAP members) they must provide Full Name, date of birth and driver license (if people do not have a driver license another valid ID is a passport or military id card)

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation to and from such activity is not the responsibility of CAP.  Privately owned vehicles travel to or from such activity is performed strictly at the member’s own risk (reference CAPR 77-1, para 6c and CAPR 52-16, para 8-10) and is not under CAP direction and control. Transportation during the activity will NOT be provided.

CHECK-IN

Team participants and staff will check-in at the Competition venue at 0600 hrs for briefing and instructions on 10 November 2019. Teams and spectator must check-in by 0730 hours on 10 November 2019. Members checking in must be in uniform as prescribed below and have their CAP Membership Card and CAPF 161 on them.

MEALS 

Sunday – Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided only for the team (6 cadets and 2 Senior Member escorts)

UNIFORM

At the check-in the day of the competition each team will be given a schedule of events.  This schedule of events will be used to determine what uniform will be worn during the event. All teams must register in PT gear and then they will provide room for changing into the uniform of the day. 

Sunday (at the check-in) – PT Gear                           

Sunday (after CPFT) – Summer Blue Uniform (1550)

EQUIPMENT

Teams will NOT need to bring any equipment. The Competition Director will provide flag carriers, flagstaffs, flag bases, pistol belts, flags, and the rifles so all team used the same equipment.

COMPETITION REGULATIONS 

  • Teams will be judged in accordance with National Cadet Competition Curriculum Guide Pamphlet 60-75 (DRAFT); the document is in the link area.

COMPETITION ELECTIVES

This year PR Wing Competition will offer the following elective events:

  • Pre-competition service project (team of 2 cadets). Note: Due to time constrains in schedule team must tape the speech and must turn in at the check-in the speech saved in a pen drive.  Judges will evaluate the speech based on the video.
  • Public Speaking (1 cadet) Note: Due to time constrains in schedule team must tape the speech and must turn in at the check-in the speech saved in a pen drive.  Judges will evaluate the speech based on the video.
  • Panel Quiz (team of 4 cadets)
  • Robotics (team of 6 cadets) - Lesson: 19 ; from CAP Introduction to Robotics
  • Drones (only the hand on portion of the event with 2 cadets). Note: will be provided by the Competition Director.

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

The teams are responsible for the following:

  • Transportation to/from and during activity.
  • Follow all CAP regulations. 
  • Conduct of all members of their team, sponsors, and spectators.
  • Be punctual.

  • Meeting #1: 21 September 2019 at 2000 hours
  • Meeting #2: 26 October 2019 at 2000 hours
  • Meeting #3: 3 November 2019 at 2000 hours
